This is a good looking stand. It is sturdy and the acrylic is thick and crystal clear. You'll need a screw driver to put it together but it shouldn't take more than 2 minutes. The edges are a little sharp but the corners aren't too bad... unless you have really bad luck or are extremely careless with your pens, they shouldn't scratch anything but the most fragile finishes. Even my largest pens (something like a Pelikan M1000 or Pilot Custom Urushi) will fit without issue. If you're using it for something like brushes with fat handles, you might have some issues. You can use it upright or lying horizontal depending on how you want it to fit on your desk / table.
